This Vespa Mandarinia japonica is considered a worker hornet. It is smaller than a queen. The workers measure between 1 3/8″ and 1 5/8″, while the queen can get to just over 2″. The workers do not reproduce. The common name for these insects are Murder Hornet. They can invade a honeybee hive and wipe it out in a matter of hours. They can be a hazard to humans due to their venomous sting.
